Weekend 110205/06

I'm proud of our competition group yesterday. There was a really tough morning workout that most went through, some didn't, yet came back and pr'd on Fran. Fran concluded our second week of our accumulation phase of training. We are piling on the work and throwing everything but the kitchen sink at all of them so that after next week concludes, we can pull back on the volume and dive into the intensification phase leading up to and through competition.

The key to successful CrossFit competition training, being that we don't know what we are training for, is to address everything in our power that may show up at the games within intelligently designed workouts and/or applied workouts. More importantly, during this accumulation phase, we must put severe focus on nutrition. It's not always paleo for those of you that wish to know. It's eating to win. Its knowing what goes in, how much, and when. We have to be on top of it or some of us may get sick or injured which halts training. No bueno. We must do everything in our power to avoid getting colds and other small ailments since we are working out so much.

I plan to also start touching on the mental side of competition here pretty soon as well. Its a must that there are no second guesses. If any of my athletes need to perform, I need them to believe that they can go on a dime's notice. It's imperative to train the mental side of competition with positive thinking and self-talk. Seeing yourself go through workouts and breaking them down over and over so that they aren't really new to you because you've completed them so many times in your mind. It's important.

We will also begin to touch on situational aspects of competition such as transitions between movements, how to start, how to pace correctly, how to finish strong, and using certain mechanics within certain workouts. We will be ready for anything that comes our way. Anything.
